The Opera

So, I have been having nightmares lately, again. This happens every now and then where I have horrible nightmares and can't sleep at night. Anyway, I was up this morning, at like 2:30, and decided to look into operas that are being performed in the area. I have always wanted to see an opera and having seen Pretty Woman recently I've wanted to see one even more. In the film Richard Gere's character Edward says: "People's reactions to opera the first time they see it is very dramatic; they either love it or they hate it. If they love it, they will always love it. If they don't, they may learn to appreciate it, but it will never become part of their soul"  (Pretty Woman). This really intrigued me. I began to wonder if I would enjoy an Opera. The Toledo Museum of Art happens to be putting La Traviata on in the month of April. It so happens that this is the Opera that Edward and Vivian see in Pretty Woman. What a better way for me to experience an Opera than one from one of my new favorite films? There is a major downside to finding all this out, the cost to see the performance. For a Sunday showing in the upper balcony a ticket costs $98!!! That's right $98!!! Plus tax!! I'm a college student who wants to experience the arts, I can't afford a ticket that costs $98. I have heard from friends that seeing an opera in Europe is much less expensive. I can only hope that this is true when I go abroad this fall.

What are your favorite Operas? Have you seen any? Do you want to see one? Do you love it or hate it?

Time Is Flying By

Sorry that I have not been a good blogger lately. School and Sorority commitments have taken over my life. I hope everyone has survived the big Blizzard of 2011. I've been looking into what I want to take with me abroad.. I don't want to under prepared, but I also don't want to take so much with me that I can't handle it. Packing for approximately nine months of my life without being able to go home and get something I have forgotten or need. Then again I must remember that I can always go shopping! I love shopping haha. In fact, my first unit plan that I wrote for my general methods course discusses the different places like Supermarkts, Einkaufzentrum, Apotheke, Drogerie etc.. I can't wait to teach one of these lessons to the class.. I will hopefully be teaching the Supermarkt/markt one. My Study Abroad class begins in about a month! I am so excited! So this fact will have to get me through the next few weeks or so.. That and spring break is quickly approaching!!

Hat ein schönes Woche und Wochenende!
