The Opera

So, I have been having nightmares lately, again. This happens every now and then where I have horrible nightmares and can't sleep at night. Anyway, I was up this morning, at like 2:30, and decided to look into operas that are being performed in the area. I have always wanted to see an opera and having seen Pretty Woman recently I've wanted to see one even more. In the film Richard Gere's character Edward says: "People's reactions to opera the first time they see it is very dramatic; they either love it or they hate it. If they love it, they will always love it. If they don't, they may learn to appreciate it, but it will never become part of their soul"  (Pretty Woman). This really intrigued me. I began to wonder if I would enjoy an Opera. The Toledo Museum of Art happens to be putting La Traviata on in the month of April. It so happens that this is the Opera that Edward and Vivian see in Pretty Woman. What a better way for me to experience an Opera than one from one of my new favorite films? There is a major downside to finding all this out, the cost to see the performance. For a Sunday showing in the upper balcony a ticket costs $98!!! That's right $98!!! Plus tax!! I'm a college student who wants to experience the arts, I can't afford a ticket that costs $98. I have heard from friends that seeing an opera in Europe is much less expensive. I can only hope that this is true when I go abroad this fall.

What are your favorite Operas? Have you seen any? Do you want to see one? Do you love it or hate it?

Time Is Flying By

Sorry that I have not been a good blogger lately. School and Sorority commitments have taken over my life. I hope everyone has survived the big Blizzard of 2011. I've been looking into what I want to take with me abroad.. I don't want to under prepared, but I also don't want to take so much with me that I can't handle it. Packing for approximately nine months of my life without being able to go home and get something I have forgotten or need. Then again I must remember that I can always go shopping! I love shopping haha. In fact, my first unit plan that I wrote for my general methods course discusses the different places like Supermarkts, Einkaufzentrum, Apotheke, Drogerie etc.. I can't wait to teach one of these lessons to the class.. I will hopefully be teaching the Supermarkt/markt one. My Study Abroad class begins in about a month! I am so excited! So this fact will have to get me through the next few weeks or so.. That and spring break is quickly approaching!!

Where Did January Go??

Hallo everyone! Right, so it's January 24, 2011.. Where did the month go? It has completely flown by and I'm afraid that the rest of this semester, and year for that matter, is going to go just as quickly if not quicker. This is what I wanted though..Right? I do want this semester to end but I don't want to leave my friends/school just yet. I was looking at my calendar the other day and realized that in just under 7 months I'll be moving home for the month before I go to Austria.. SEVEN MONTHS! Three of those I'll be in school, the other four I'll be working my butt off so that I can have a little money while being abroad..

On a higher note, It's been snowing on and off everyday for the past couple of weeks! FINALLY! My mom keeps joking that while I'm overseas that I'll experience the mildest winter that Austria will have seen in years, while back home they are getting blizzard after blizzard. I really hope that does not happen.. But I would probably die of laughter because we would have been right!

It's time to get back to work.. Class that is..

PS. This is a bit random but being the Movie Fanatic that I am, where is a good site to find international film release dates so that I can catch some films that I'm looking forward to but will be out of the country during their US release dates..

Haben eine schönes Woche!!

First Week Of The Semester

Hello all, hope your week is going well. Mine has been pretty hectic. Classes began on Monday and it has gotten crazier everyday. My professors are all amazing, minus my Second Year Field Experience professor. She literally spent have of the first class talking about her character in Second Life. I would have been much more into the discussion had she been about a level 50 Pally with a horse and cool armor. My professor for Education in a Pluralistic Society is a fabulous mix of smarts and humor of Will from Sanctuary and Dr. Daniel Jackson on StarGate, and suave like Indiana Jones (when he's a professor). I wish that I was taking a German course this semester. It would bring some sanity into my life haha. I was really excited that one of my classes didn't require a book, but then one of my professors added a book. There goes my hopes of saving a little bit of money this semester.

Well this semester has great potential. Especially once I start my Study Abroad course in March :-D

New Year, Time to Get Excited!

Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a great New Year. We had our traditional good luck meal of Bratwurst and Sauerkraut, plus one Black-eyed Pea haha. I can't wait for this year to truly begin. Once classes start time will FLY by. I have so much going on it's going to be crazy! 19 credit hours to take plus traveling. I am going to do a lot of traveling before heading to Salzburg. Hopefully for spring break I'll be heading down to Texas to visit my grandparents, and I'll be going back to Texas for the Fourth of July. I love flying and can't wait to fly there. First, however I've got to survive the 19 credit hours I'm taking. Since I'm an education major I've got to complete 70 in class observation hours. 70 is a lot! None of my fellow classmates have taken that many unless they are in methods. Well I'm on a  mini-vacation home for the next few days and can't wait for classes to start in the morning.

Crazy Time of Year

A belated Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone! I have been MIA for the past week because I have been baking up a storm, working, and traveling. I am just glad that I got to go home for Christmas, even if it was for only 36hours. Time has flown by so quickly this year! I can't believe that it's approximately 274 days until I head out to Austria!! If time goes any faster I don't know if I'll be ready by then haha! I need to start making a list of what I want to take with me and what I think I'll need while I am over there. Maybe I won't come back, and just live the rest of my life there.. I can see it.. Wake up every morning seeing the Alps and living in a small town that actually has a bakery, butcher, drogerie, etc.. I can see it now.. Well I've got to quit daydreaming and get ready for the day.. Yay work haha..

Bis dann,

Weekend!

YAY!! Classes are finally done! Now it's time to study for finals.. Really I am only going to study for one final because my other two will be fairly simple. That is Art History I don't really care about because it has nothing to do with my major and I hate the class. Had it been about Western Art like Rembrandt, Monet, DaVinci etc I would have enjoyed it so much more. My German exam is going to be a cinch. It has been review all semester and the final is over the future tense. The one exam that I am going to study hardcore for is my Intro to Teaching a Foreign Language class. We can use notes and such but it's still going to kick my butt. I've got an A in the class right now but I have to do well to keep it at an A. Thankfully the class is getting together for a study session on Sunday. I wish that my boss wasn't making me work so much over the next week. 28 hours on top of finals and a crap ton of other things going on is CRAZY. Not only did they schedule me a ton but they are making me work in the Jewelry Dept. I no next to nothing about the Jewelry we sell. Oh well I'll get through it. I can't wait for Weihnachten und Skilaufen. I've never been skiing but it should be a funny sight to see..

Have a great weekend!!
